Trafford's 28 game unbeaten league run finally came to an end on Saturday when they were defeated 3-1 at Atherton Collieries, a defeat that also ended their run of 18 consecutive victories.
Despite an early chance for Colls winger David Holt, it was Trafford who dominated for long spells in the first half with Chris mackay firing a free kick just wide and Kayde Coppin shooting tamely at Gavin Bates.
Gareth Thomas then released Andy Lundy whose effort was blocked by Bates at point blank range and the home keeper produced another good save to palm Scott Metcalfe's 20 yard piledriver behind for a corner. Andy Maclean then saw his goalbound header cleared off the line by the desperate home defence.
In the 34th minute Trafford finally broke the deadlock with the 100th goal of a memorable season, Metcalfe crashing a low angled drive past Bates and into the opposite corner.
Substitutes Dion Depeiaza and Danny Stubberfield were introduced at half time and within minutes of the restart Depeiaza broke clear, rounded Bates but shot wide following a freak bobble on the uneven surface.
In the 58th minute Colls were gifted an equaliser when Chris Mackay gave the ball away on the edge of his penalty area and Mike Waterworth coolly shot past Andy Moore.
Trafford left back Sean Smith curled a shot inches over shortly afterwards but the visitors were guilty of further poor defending in the 68th minute when Colls took the lead, Holt looping a shot over Moore from 8 yards.
The visitors were unable to produce their trademark flowing football due to the tenacity of their opponents and the difficult surface and deep into injury time Holt made it 3-1 when he poked the ball home at the near post following a break down the left by Danny Shannon

Vodkat League Champions Trafford extended their lead at the top of the table to 15 points following their superb 3-2 victory at third placed Newcastle on Saturday.
Manager Ged Kielty made five changes to the team that had secured the title the previous game and they were rocked after only two minutes when Town's Richard Minor jinked past two defenders and crossed for Simon Eldershaw to tap home.
The home team were battling valiantly for a runners up spot that may still bring Unibond League football next season and dominated the opening exchanges.
However, in the 17th minute Trafford left winger Scott Metcalfe brilliantly rounded three home defenders and crashed a great drive into the top corner for a breathtaking equaliser.
The visitors joy was shortlived as within a minute veteran defender Lee Southwood carelessly upended Paul McMahon and Eldershaw drove the resultant penalty into the bottom corner past the despairing Tom Read.
Despite this setback, Trafford were now playing with greater conviction and cohesion and in the 22nd minute Dion Depeiaza appeared to be pushed by Broadley but the referee ignored the visitors claims for a penalty.
Andy Lundy then just failed to connect with a fine cross by Kayde Coppin and in the 33rd minute Read pushed a drive by Alistair Brown behind for a corner.
Two minutes later Trafford survived an almighty scare when McMahon headed against the crossbar following a deep cross from the left but the visitors were back on level terms in the 38th minute when Metcalfe cracked a powerful ground shot from 15 yards that Ritchie could only parry and Andy Lundy followed up to net simply from 6 yards.
The opening minutes of the second half were rather scrappy and disjointed although it was Town who had a great chance to regain the lead in the 54th minute when Eldershaw broke clear down the middle, chipped over the advancing Read and saw the ball rebound into play off the crossbar.
The turning point of the game came in the 74th minute with the introduction of substitute Scott Barlow, the effervescent striker almost scoring with his first touch following a deft header by Lundy.
Four minutes later Barlow made it 3-2 with a fine goal, collecting a great cross by Gareth Thomas and expertly slipping the ball under the advancing Ritchie from the tightest of angles.
The closing minutes belonged entirely to the visitors backed by their magnificent supporters and in the 80th minute Barlow almost notched again but shot inches wide after Ritchie had parried Coppin's power drive.
The home keeper then produced two magnificent saves to thwart Barlow and Metcalfe but the final whistle arrived to signal yet another tremendous result for the young Trafford outfit who have now won an amazing 18 games in succession.
On Saturday Trafford travel to Atherton Collieries for a league game kicking off at 3 p.m. before their final game of a wonderful season against second placed Salford City the following week when they will be presented with the League Championship Trophy on what promises to be a carnival occasion.
